RNR Announces sale of the hill house
### FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ###
Richmond Neighborhood Restoration Announces 5th Residential Property Sold
Richmond Neighborhood Restoration (RNR) is excited to announce the sale of 2237 East Main Street, more commonly known at the Hill House! RNR’s fifth residential home was sold by Alfredo Diamond of Better Homes and Garden Realty to Bob Betschowa and Tina Hicks, who are looking for a new chapter in the Richmond community.
The house was originally built in 1904 to the Hill family and was donated to RNR in 2020 by the county commissioners. The house was called the ugliest home in Wayne County in a 1996 Pal-Item article. Today, the home sits proudly on East Main Street and is one of the first residential homes visitors see as they enter Richmond from the Indiana/Ohio border.
The renovations included: new HVAC, new roof, new 2-door modern garage, new electrical and plumbing, new kitchen with appliance, complete bathroom overhauls, renovated in-suite laundry room, a new privacy fence and a repaired retaining wall. One of the most significant features of the house includes the restoration of the original hardwood floors throughout the house. This work would not have been possible without financial assistance through Indiana Landmarks and First Bank Richmond.
Roxie Deer, Executive Director of RNR says, “The Hill House means more than anyone will ever know to our organization. It has tested our patience and proven to us that even the worst looking homes have true beauty, it just takes a lot of work! The completion of this house would not be possible without our incredible volunteer corps and contractors who saw this project through to the end. We know our new owners will love this house as much as we do and we cannot wait to see them turn this house into their home.”
RNR revitalizes Richmond’s historic neighborhoods through community building, citizen participation, and preserving our legacy. Founded in 2015, RNR has started working on their sixth residential property, located in the Historic Starr Neighborhood, and has recently completed the sale of their first property for the PLACE program with the City of Richmond. Over the next 5 years, RNR will continue to focus efforts in the Starr Neighborhood and in the Main Street Richmond district, providing quality housing options for our community.
Dr. David Jetmore, Board President and Founder of RNR says, “RNR has gigantic plans for the next 5 years and it starts by our newest family moving into the Hill House. Our homes continue to improve long after our work is done and we can see entire neighborhoods improving surrounding our homes. We could not be more excited to share the Hill House with our community and cannot wait to invite you to see our next project.”
