RNR names Deer as new Executive Director
Richmond Neighborhood Restoration (RNR), a local non-profit that restores historic homes, announced that Roxie Deer will become the organization’s next executive director.
Deer will provide organizational leadership to the organization and work with its board of directors to set strategic direction. In addition, Deer will be responsible for RNR’s day-to-day operations and completing the restoration projects that aim to revitalize Richmond neighborhoods.
Deer, a lifelong Richmond resident, has a passion for, and history of, community development. Since 2018, she has served the Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce as director of membership and education. In this role, Deer worked with over 70 Chamber stakeholders and led committees such as Business Education, Member Outreach and Helping Young Professionals Engage (HYPE) Wayne County.
Deer will begin her role with the organization on November 28, 2022. Board vice president, Dr. David Jetmore, said Deer’s joining RNR at a perfect time.
“We have so much momentum right now as an organization. We will soon complete two important, recognizable projects that are going to make a difference for our town. Several community members have made significant contributions to the organization which we value and appreciate. Now, with Roxie’s involvement, we are well positioned to do more.”
RNR’s two current projects include the renovation of the former Secret Ingredient location at 720-724 East Main and the Hill House located at 2237 East Main.
Deer said the RNR projects are exciting and provide a great opportunity to attract and retain talent in our region.
“RNR has a wonderful opportunity to make a large-scale impact on the Richmond community and our housing stock. Instead of discussing the problems, they are rolling up their sleeves and getting the work done. I am beyond excited about the potential this organization has for our community and to help drive that change. The future of RNR and its growth will be a new and exciting challenge for me and one that I am ready to jump into with this incredible board and volunteers!”
In addition to Deer’s work experience, she has served on numerous nonprofit boards including HYPE Wayne County, the Housing Authority of the City of Richmond, Genesis of Richmond, Whitewater Community Television, Tri Kappa Delta Zeta Sorority, and Dudas Inspirational Venue for the Arts (DIVA).
Deer earned a master’s in educational leadership from Concordia University-Portland and a bachelor of arts in sociology from the College of Wooster. In 2022, Deer received the Wayne County Athena Young Professional Award for her work advocating for women’s health issues, specifically breast cancer.
RNR board treasurer and search committee member, Jason Troutwine, said Deer’s background is well suited for RNR’s mission.
“There is no doubt that Roxie has the experience and skillset to be successful in this role. She has been very successful in community building activities, volunteer mobilization and communication projects. What sets Roxie apart from others is her passion for our community and her genuine desire to help make Richmond an even better place to live.” ###
